Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #141 Geometry

The world is full of squares, circles, triangles which can be seen most everywhere.  Boston Massachusetts is one of many cities filled with beautiful geometric, architectural designs both old and new.  For this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge, Patti wants us to focus on geometry—shapes that are visually interesting and form a pattern or rhythm.  She suggests we think about geometry and the many examples seen everyday that we might not notice.  Be sure to check out her post here.   Once one understands what each geometric shape symbolizes it is easier to understand why certain shapes are associated with certain buildings.  Rectangles or Squares represent Balance and Tradition; Circles –…

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge: #130 IT’S A SMALL WORLD

This week Lens-Artist’s guest host, Anne Sandler suggests we think about close-up and macro photography.  She skillfully describes the difference between the two.  Be sure to read her post, It’s a Small World. I have a macro lens but find that it is not used much.  Instead, I tend to photograph small objects using a long lens with a short focal point. This particular picture below was taken with a Nikon 18-300 lens, focal point of 145, f/5.7. My banner shot is the beautiful variegated Shell Ginger flower from Florida. This was taken with a Nikon 18-105 lens, focal point of 42, F/4.8.  Interestingly, months ago before being introduced to…

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge: #128 And Here Comes the Holiday Season…

“My idea of Christmas, whether old-fashioned or modern, is very simple: loving others.” – Bob Hope With Christmas Day only several hours away, I am reminded of a few favorite Holiday scenes over the years.  Every holiday, until this year, has been spent with our family either in our home or theirs.  Plus there have often been years when my husband and I would spend days in New York City, Naples, Florida or Montreal, Canada, enjoying the holiday lights and decorations.   “Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.” – Norman Vincent Peale These are a few favorite pictures from our travels. …

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge #123 Found in the Neighborhood – Wabi Sabi

For our Photo Challenge, Ann-Christine suggests we rediscover our surrounds.  Look around and make an effort to notice things that are generally overlooked.  Think outside the box.  As she says in her post, “There is so much to discover, if only you open your mind and all your senses. Follow that road, follow your curiosity… There might still be lovely surprises around the corner.”  Be sure to see her post on Found in the Neighborhood. The Kiawah Island Photography Club had an interesting program earlier this week.  Jamie Konarski Davidson, an award-winning freelance outdoor & nature photographer, gave a presentation entitled “Wabi Sabi: Finding Beauty in Imperfection”.  Wabi-sabi in photography…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #115 INSPIRATION

This week Tina is inviting us to show images that Inspire us.  I had a hard time narrowing down this topic because the truth is, whenever outside there are many Inspirational things all around to see and photograph!  My husband and I are in southern Maine now so I decided to feature some Inspirational pictures taken in Boothbay Harbor. On a couple of occasions we visited this area with our friends to play golf, spend the night and enjoy the town.  It is quite picturesque as you can see; a popular yachting and tourist destination, known for lobster fishing, boat building and numerous celebrations throughout the year.  Plus, Boothbay Golf…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #109 The Sun – A Road Trip North

“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” – Helen Keller This week Amy challenges us to feature pictures of the Sun.  Saturday, when she announced our word challenge, my husband and I were traveling north up the east coast from South Carolina to Maine.  Not knowing what images to share, I decided on photographing the sun various times during the last leg of our three day journey to Maine.  These images were taken on Sunday during a seven hour period with the iPhone 11 Pro Max, from inside the car at 70+ miles an hour.  (If you’d like, double click each image to view…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #106 AUTUMN

This week Patti wants us to continue thinking about the four seasons; this week the topic is Autumn.  Be sure to visit her post and enjoy the lovely autumn images. To me Autumn is about the beautiful colors Mother Nature creates as the air gets cooler and tree leaves change to glorious oranges, reds and yellows. Maine as well as other states in New England have a well-deserved reputation as being one of the prettiest areas during the fall months.  Over the past years my husband and I have spent our summers in southern Maine,  and occasionally stay through the fall and winter months.  Such a treat to be there…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #94 ALL WET

Tina selected “All Wet” as our topic this week.  “All wet” would be ducks splashing in the water, dolphins spraying water as they strand feed or pelicans diving for fish in the ocean.  Another example of All Wet is our cocker spaniels getting a bath, which isn’t a pretty sight.   Be sure to see Tina’s post this week (Travels and Trifles), she has featured beautiful pictures of grizzly bears catching salmon in Alaska! After searching through achieved photos, I decided to show pictures of our trip to Burano, Italy (near Venice).  Even though there was a soaking rain throughout the day, no one seemed to mind.  I enjoyed seeing…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #93 MORNING

This week Ann-Christine selected Morning for our weekly challenge.  She is asking us to share a few things we do when starting off our day.  Generally, I am an early morning person and find myself heading to the beach first thing, even before a morning cup of coffee!  Am not sure what draws me there, probably the tranquility and sound of waves crashing on the shore, the salty smell in the air and nature’s beautiful colors gently painting the sky and ocean.  Since no two mornings look the same, I am also curious as to what might have transpired overnight.  Maybe there will be deer tracks in the sand next…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #92 GOING BACK TO ST KITTS

This week our guest host, John Steiner, asked us to think if we have visited a favorite place more than once and if so, how did you approach the second trip photographically?  Or, if you’ve only been somewhere once, what would you do differently the second time around?  His lovely post is available here for you to enjoy.   When thinking about our challenge, the Island of St. Kitts immediately came to mind; we have been there twice and want to return again.  On our second trip we had a tour guide a couple of days and he told us about the Island’s history and took us to many sites. …
