Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #173: Interesting Architecture

“As an architect you design for the present with an awareness of the past, for a future which is essentially unknown.” – Norman Foster

Interesting, beautiful architecture can be seen most anywhere people live, especially in cities and towns.  It is visual art that is hard to ignore.  I always enjoy photographing interesting looking buildings.  I selected a few favorites pictures from within the United States – Maine, Boston and Chicago.

This Gothic-inspired architectural house has won the distinction as the most photographed house in Maine.  It is known as the Wedding Cake House since George W. Bourne (a prominent 19th-century shipbuilder) built it for his new bride in 1825.  The two story house is quite large also has an attached matching shed and barn of the same beautiful Gothic design.

Faneuil Hall, which was built in Boston in 1742, became known as the “Cradle of Liberty” of the Revolution.  The amazing roles it played during the American Revolution is well documented and interesting to read.  I featured this building and other examples of interesting architecture in Boston in a previous post entitled,  Geometry (https://mycolorfulexpressions.com/lens-artist-photo-challenge-141-geometry/).

“Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” – Frank Gehry

Several years ago when we visited Chicago and I found the architecture there to be amazing.  The Bean or Cloud Gate in Millennium Park, one of my favorites, was designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry.   Additional pictures of well known architectural buildings was featured in another previous post, Cityscapes, (https://mycolorfulexpressions.com/city-scapes-lens-artists-photo-challenge/).

“Chicago’s one of the rare places where architecture is more visible.” – Frank Gehry

For me, it was breathtaking to see the Bahá’í House of Worship in Chicago with its symmetry and intricate concrete carving.

“Beauty perishes in life, but is immortal in art.” – Leonard Da Vinci

Another famous Chicago Landmark is the Tribune Tower, formally the home of the Chicago Tribune Newspaper.

“Architecture is the biggest unwritten document of history.” – Daniel Libeskind
