Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #314 Shorelines

“My life is like a stroll upon the beach, as near the ocean’s edge as I can go.” – Henry David Thoreau Where do I find peace and relaxation? At the shoreline watching shorebirds search for food and listening to the rhythmic sound of gentle waves washing up on the sand. I also enjoy being around others on the beach walking along the ocean and seeing children playing in the sand.  Occasionally, a few people are lucky enough to see a Loggerhead turtle return to the ocean after laying her eggs in the sand. This first selection of shorelines was taken during our many travels to the Islands of Aruba…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #176 One Image/One Story

“The greatest art in the world is the art of storytelling.” – Cecil B. DeMille The challenge this week is to show pictures which tell a story.  Ann-Christine asked, “What is a photo story? Some photos are staged, or taken just for their story, and some stories come up first when you see your photo on the screen. A lot of photographic storytelling involves capturing shots of interesting scenes and phenomena that cannot easily be explained through words…. Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #72 WAITING

This week Amy invites us to explore a few situations we have encountered which involve waiting.  Guess I never really stopped to consider how much time I spend waiting some days. The realization was scary although like many people, spending this time doing something relaxing helps the time go by quicker.  (Actually, I am waiting now for my husband in a doctor’s office while working on this blog!  Thank goodness for larger size handbags for carrying books and iPads.)  Taking air flights or waiting for appointments usually entails waiting although often times ‘people watching,’ talking to others, reading, checking the phone or listening to a podcast or music helps the…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #62 SILHOUETTES

This week Patti suggests we show pictures featuring Silhouettes.  Silhouette photography is quite interesting in that it can evoke emotions, tell a story plus entice viewers to spend a few extra moments exploring details.   “One of the most effective ways of dramatizing a landscape or a wildlife subject is to capture its silhouette. The combination of a strong form with a beautiful background is unbeatable.” – Jim Zuckerman   Friends relaxing with their beverage while observing the ongoing gorgeous sunset in the Gulf of Mexico!  Is there a storm approaching, adding extra drama to the evening sky?   “It was sunsets that taught me that beauty sometimes only lasts…

TIME TO RELAX: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

In the hectic world of work deadlines, raising a family or looking after loved ones it’s often difficult to make yourself take a “time out” and allow your mind to wander and think about pleasant thoughts.   Sometimes even ten minutes is enough to revitalize your mind and energy.    “The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.”  –  Sydney J. Harris   What could be more relaxing and cooling than enjoying a delicious dinner in a beautiful venue as your feet are being warmed in the Caribbean Sea? We enjoyed many delicious dinners at The Flying Fishbone in Savaneta, Aruba during the winter months we spent…
