Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #287 Sound

This week Donna of Wind Kisses suggests we feature a few pictures showing examples of sound. Sources of sound can be divided into two types: geophony or natural and man-made.  A few examples of natural sounds would be blowing wind, flowing streams or oceans, storms or animals such as the barking dog playing on the beach in the header shot. Well-known man-made sources are road vehicles, airplanes, music, home appliances, for example. I will start off showing a few examples of man-made sounds.

“The city is a symphony of sounds, from the sirens to the laughter to the footsteps of strangers” – unknown

Big city sounds is a continuous hum of horns blowing, people talking, sirens blaring.

The roaring sound of powerful airplane engines at the airport.

Trio of musicians playing lovely music for a crowd of people.

“That satisfying thwack of a driver smacking a dimpled ball into the distance. That sound is the product of a lot of research and a lot of money.” – Scott Simon

A golfer teeing off on the golf course and the unmistakable sound when the club makes contact with the ball.

Below, a few examples of natural sounds created by nature. First, the sounds of a hurricane at sea with raging wind and churring ocean waters.

The sound of heavy rain beating against the wooden deck.

Or, the sound of loud squawking from a Great Blue Heron if  disturbed when feeding or on its nest.

Hope you have enjoyed seeing these pictures!  Thanks goes to Donna for making us more aware and appreciative of all the sounds around us!  Be sure to see her lovely pictures and read her post by clicking here.

“Simply, slow down, be kind.  And don’t forget to have art in your life – music, painting theater, dance and sunsets.” – Eric Carle

  1. Perfect post for the challenge, starting with the noisy city and covering the more lovely nature sounds. I loved your sea photo, the waves are magnificent in their movement.

  2. Sylvia, you have shared such great photos here. I liked all of them and the sounds they carried along. The city images were alive. So was the case of the nature photos with waves, rain, and wildlife. Great post!

  3. Great selections, Sylvia. Nothing like the sounds of the city, especially NY. Today, I loved the musicians in the grass. And what a great quote and photo add of the golfer. Pretty distinctive sound in that swack.
