“Sometimes I wish that I was the weather, you’d bring me up in conversations forever. And when it rained, I’d be the talk of the day.” – John Mayer
“The weather” almost always seems to come up in general conversations! Discussions can center around what to wear outside to stay comfortable, whether to plan an outing on a given day, how today’s weather makes us feel, and this list could go on.
For some photographers, weather is an important consideration before going outside with the camera! Suppose the light outside is too harsh or flat at midday or too stormy or its snowing too hard to venture out?
These are a few pictures of various weather conditions I have encountered. Must admit some were taken inside the comfort of my home😉 while the other pictures were taken on walks.
I will start with Maine since is known to have snowy winter weather which seems to create beautiful landscapes the next day.
Summertime and overnight changes in the weather can welcome unwanted tropical systems. In the picture below beach goers were out on a misty day as an approaching storm was churring up the Atlantic Ocean. And, the weather image below shows an early morning fog on the golf course close our house.
“There’s no such thing as bad weather – only the wrong clothes.” – Billy Connolly
On rare occasions Virginia Beach in Virginia will experience unprecedented weather. In this case it is an unwelcome snowstorm which paralyzed the City for days.
Last but not least, I cannot close without featuring a picture of one of our perfect weather days on Kiawah Island, SC.
“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; only different kinds of good weather.” – John Ruskin

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliot Erwitt

Stunning winter photos, Sylvia. Excellent post!
I loved your first quote! True isn’t it? I especially love the creek photos with the snowy trees. Such solitude.
LOL, Donna, I couldn’t believe my luck when I came across that quote the other day! It seemed perfect for the topic on weather. So glad you like the snow images, doesn’t it always seem so quiet and serene outside right after a snow storm?
yes, And I used to love it at night. Not sure why its that way, but its true.
Wonderful selection of photos, Sylvia! The snowy images are stunning….almost like paintings!
Thank you, Donna! The special thing about snow is that it creates such lovely images right after each storm.
Simply beautiful weather images Sylvia! I loved all the your winter scenes.
STUNNING banner shot. Love the winter scenes too, and the beach shot, and, and, et al!!!
Thank you, John! The sky in the banner picture was extraordinary looking that day, I feel lucky to have gotten this shot.
Enjoyed following you around your usual haunts Sylvia! Just loved those snowy scenes in Maine, and who knew we’d find the same thing in Virginia! My favorite image is the snowy trees beside the churning water.
LOL Tina! And the snowy trees by the creek was on the side of the road so of course we had to stop so I could get some pictures! It was even more beautiful seeing in person.
Sylvia, you chose beautiful photos to illustrate this week’s challenge.
Thank you, Egidio!
