Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #402 Wonders

“Everyone likes birds. What wild creature is more accessible to our eyes and ears, as close to us and everyone in the world, as universal as a bird?” – Sir David Attenborough It is hard to describe how excited I was when these flocks of birds settled in the pond behind our house in Florida! Several different flocks appeared at various times over a couple of weeks before moving on to another place.  Couldn’t believe what I was witnessing, pure wonder!! Surprised, in awe and amazed at the sights in front of me.  My immediate reaction each time was to grab the camera gear and take as many pictures…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #401 Focus on the Subject with These Essential Tips

“A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart, and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it. It is, in a word, effective.” – Irving Penn This week, Patti would like us to challenge ourselves by showing pictures which follow a few proven methods a photographer can use to draw the viewer’s eyes to the subject. Several of her suggestions include getting in closer to the subject, using leading line, negative space, selective focus, simplifying the background or changing the position of the subject within the image. The first photograph is an example of seeing the subject up close.  My hope is that close…

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #399 Stuck in Place

The challenge this week is a little different.  Being ‘Stuck in Place’ is any small area we choose to go with our camera. We are not suppose to walk around much and only spend about thirty minutes looking for a few things to photograph. These are the rules Egido has suggested we follow. This exercise is a great way to become more aware of our surroundings and find interesting things to photograph that would normally be overlooked!  I decided to choose a small area in our front yard that is close to the bird feeder. It was surprising how many interesting things I saw while standing still and really looking…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge – 396 Favorite Quotes with Images

“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.” — Rudyard Kipling. Ann-Christine, our host this week, writes, “There is much to learn from old wisdom – and wit…that speaks to us”. Her challenge is for us to make others feel these quotes through our pictures!  I agree that Illustrated quotes with pictures help to make the saying more memorable. Below are a few of my favorites. “You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” – Walter Hagen   “Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food, and medicine for…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #364 Quiet Moment

“Within you, there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself.” —Hermann Hesse A Quiet Moment is precious time spent alone with one’s thoughts. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday sounds. Alone time can provide the experience of inner peace and personal growth by listening to your inner voice, enhancing your creativity, improving mental clarity and gathering your strength. Quiet moments can be further enhanced by being with nature or going to a favorite place in your house for reflection.   This first series of pictures shows my favorite Quiet Moment locations close to our house in Maine. This first…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #363 Virtual Scavenger Hunt

“Of all man’s works of art, a cathedral is greatest. A vast and majestic tree is greater than that.” – Henry Ward Beecher The photo challenge this week is a virtual scavenger hunt. Anne is challenging us to look through our photo archives to find the right one that meets her criteria. Who knows, I  may find a few pictures I had forgotten about. She suggested a list of items to look for. Here are a few: something with green eyes, or cool jewelry, something circular, rectangular, has a design or a pattern, something with bumpy texture, a soft texture, or something of glass, and her list goes on….   All…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #349 The first thing I thought of…

“Daily laughter has been shown to elevate our moods, promote creativity and give us more energy.” – Robin Sharma It’s wonderful to smile or laugh out loud when seeing a particular picture, so this week Tina is inviting us to share a little humor by writing the first though that comes to mind underneath each picture.  She says “Sometimes our sense of humor kicks in before we press the shutter button, other times a perfectly serious image can be made humorous after the fact.”    Below are a few random pictures I thought would be fun to post. My eye sight must be worse than I thought! I wonder how that glass…

Lens Artists Photo Challenge #328 Winter

“There’s just something beautiful about walking in snow that nobody else has walked on. It makes you believe you’re special”. – Carol Rifka Brunt John, our host this week, mentioned in his opening sentence that winter will be upon those living in the northern hemisphere in only two weeks. Must admit I had to smile when reading his words because we have already had two snowstorms and it is only December 14!  For the challenge, John suggests we share some pictures of what winter means to us. Personally, I have enjoyed the couple of winter months we have experienced in southern Maine. Out of the fifteen summers spent here we…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #323 Silence

“Silence is a natural resource we don’t often think about because it is an absence, rather than a presence. But most of the places we think of as “quiet” are actually filled with an abundance of natural sounds…. As humanity grows louder, these pockets of silence and natural sounds are becoming rarer.” – Pete McBride, filmmaker and author of Seeing Silence: The Beauty of the World’s Most Quiet Places McBride says silence is the absence of human-made sounds and the “sublime notes of nature”. Our Lens-Artist host, Egidio, of Through Brazilian Eyes, proposes we select a few pictures to emphasize the presence of silence through photography. In his post, Egidio…

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #316 Destination: Fun

“Love the life you live. Live the life you love.” – Bob Marley This week Egidio, of (Through Brazilian Eyes) suggests we show pictures of a few things we like to do for fun. I like being with friends, traveling with my husband or quiet times walking with my dog or reading a book. In adittion, having a camera close by is a great way to enjoy my surroundings since I find myself looking for interesting subjects to photograph.   I decided to feature a few pictures of fun places and events my husband and I have enjoyed over the years.  First, the banner picture, was taken at a resort…
