Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #259 Unbound

“I have never in my life been so struck by any place as by Venice. It is the wonder of the world.” – Charles Dickens

This week Dan of departing in 5 mins, is the guest host, and has chosen ‘Unbound’ as our photo challenge. He says, “Unbound: Capturing moments that take you away from your daily routine and/or everyday responsibilities.  Is it a day trip, a road trip, or maybe a great escape?”

Several years ago my husband and I took a cruise around the Mediterranean Sea, visiting many interesting countries along the way. We spent fifteen wonderful days learning about other people and countries, sight seeing, relaxing and enjoying excellent food! Venice was our earliest stop and definately one of our favorites. This is a selection of pictures taken around the mouth of the Grand Canal in the early evening.

“Venice is like eating an entire box of chocolate liqueurs in one go.” – Truman Capote

“The first views of the Grand Canal are indeed surpassingly beautiful, and you are carried back to the golden days of the Queen of the Adriatic…” – Augustus J.C. Hare

“Venice never quite seems real, but rather an ornate film set suspended on the water.” – Frida Giannini

“I will never forget experiencing Venice for the first time. It feels like you are transported to another time – the art, music, food and pure romance in the air is like no other place.” –  Elizabeth Berkley

Hope you have enjoyed seeing these few pictures. The City rests on 118 island separated by 150 canals and is truely a magical place to visit!

“People don’t always remember what you said or even what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou

  1. Lovely post Sylvia – alas poor Venice, sinking ever further. Such a magical place as you’ve shown. We visited during one of their hottest weeks in history although I’m sure it’s even hotter now with climate change. We may need images like these to remember it as it once was. Let’s hope not.

  2. I loved your collection of images from Venice. You sure made it feel magical, romantic and welcoming. We all be there in a few months. thank you for your views.
