Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #250 Skyscapes or Cloudscapes

“Every cloud has a silver lining.” – John Milton

Clouds come in all sizes, shapes and colors, that is what makes them so interesting. The images you see now will change within five minutes or less. They can blanket the sky and block out the sun or provide a backdrop for a spectacular sunrise or sunset.

This week Amy, of The World is a Book”, chose a very interesting topic; Skyscapes and Cloudscape. What is the difference between the two? The dictionary describes a Skyscape as a section of the sky, usually extensive, which often includes a part of the horizon usually seen from a single viewpoint. Whereas Cloudscapes are generally referred to as a view of the sky with an interesting array of clouds.

These cloudscape images below were taken during the summer months from our deck in southern Maine. I think these first couple of pictures show a cold front moving in and fortunately, there is very little smog which helps make the colors vivid and sharp.

“Behind the clouds the sun is still shining.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“Clouds, they make a painting out of the sky.” – Marty Rubin

These next three photos are examples of skyscapes. First one was taken as the sun was setting in Kennebunkport, Maine. The last two contrasting seascapes demonstrate the impact of the sky when creating such beautiful scenes, taken on Kiawah Island, SC.

After reviewing these pictures plus those of other Lens-Artists photographers this week, I made a decision to walk on the beach more often at different times during the day to be surrounded by the evolving beauty found at the seashore!!

“People don’t always remember what you said or even what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou
