Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #210 Three Favorite Photos

“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.” – Ansel Adams

This week Sarah says, “join me in sharing three of what you consider to be among your very best shots… Look into your archives and apply your most critical eye; play ‘judge’ and try to look dispassionately at your images. Pick out three (just three) that stand out as particular favourites.”  Be sure to see her three favorites and learn why she chose them by clicking here.

The scene below is a common sight in Kennebunkport, ME. What caught my attention on this particular day was low hanging rain clouds that were beginning to clear, the shadows reflected on the smooth surface of the river as three anchored canoes floated aimlessly about. This plus the brilliant fall foliage colors in the background created a stunning scene.

“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” – unknown

Our house in Maine is not far from Marginal Way in Ogunquit. A popular mile long scenic walk on cliffs high above the Atlantic Ocean. The view is specular, making it a desirable place for walkers, joggers, photographers, painters and even occasional musicians playing their accordion, violin or trumpet into the ocean breeze.

This picture was taken early one morning; the air was foggy and wind was whipping over the surface of the ocean. As I was finishing my walk, a lone painter began setting up his easel and paints. I felt like I was definately at the right place and the right time!

“We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us.” – Ralph Hattersley

This picture was taken at a hotel along Interstate 95 as my husband and I were traveling from South Carolina to Florida. This lady was temporarily living there while her house was being rebuilt after a devastating flood. I struck up a conversation and learned she was a nurse for many years then had to retire due to an injury on the job. As I was leaving, she waved good-bye and said thank you.

This picture is a personal favorite, her face and gestures seem to capture kindness and appreciation plus the devotion seen in her dog’s eyes. The short time I spent with her was featured in a previous post about random acts of kindness. The title is Future; feel free to click here to read about this chance encounter with a stranger.

“Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.” – Imogene Cummingham

Hope you enjoyed seeing a few of my favorite pictures and reading the story about them!

“Simply, slow down, be kind. And don’t forget to have art in your life – music, painting theater, dance and sunsets.” – Eric Carle
