Lens Artists Photo Challenge #198 Light and Shadow

“Darkness is absence of light. Shadow is diminution of light.” – Leonardo da Vinci

Light and Shadow:  Patti suggests we feature a few pictures showing how well they play together to create beauty, drama, serenity or a smile.

“I am forever chasing light.  Light turns the ordinary into the magical.” – Trent Parke

“Don’t be afraid of the shadows, it only means there’s a light nearby,” – Amy Lee

In this particular picture, shadows are something to be afraid of!  This once beautiful 19th century home in Maryland is purported to be haunted. 😥

“A luminous body will appear more brilliant in proportion as it is surrounded by deeper shadow.” – Leonardo da Vinci.

“A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.” – Francis of Assisi

These branches washed ashore after one of our December winter storms.  I loved seeing someone decided to share a bit of holiday spirit with others.

“The eye is always caught by light, but shadows have more to say.” – Gregory Maguire

Lovely tall shadows on Magnolia Swamp as the sun is rising in Charleston, SC.

“Shadow conceals – Light reveals.  To know what to reveal and what to conceal, and in what degrees to do this, is all there is to art.” – Josef van Sterberg

Hope you enjoyed seeing these pictures.  Thanks goes to Patti for reminding us to be more aware of the effect of Shadow and Light on a subject.  Be sure to see her post by clicking here.

“Simply, slow down, be kind.  And don’t forget to have art in your life – music, painting theater, dance and sunsets.” – Eric Carle
