Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #190 Close and Closer

“In photography the smallest thing can be the greatest subject.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson

This week it is suggested we take a closer look at the subjects we photograph.  Look for interesting details, patterns, colors or unseen objects to show.  This can be accomplished using a macro lens, zoom lens, by moving ourselves in closer or simply cropping.  Note, these images can be enlarged by double clicking them.

The banner shot shows different types of coral found on Caribbean reefs.  And, the image below highlights a small area of the reef, revealing the detailed beauty in the various corals.  This was taken at The New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts.

This particular “touching pool” at the same aquarium is giving people a chance to become familar with stingrays.

When moving in closer wih the camera, it’s easy to see a stingray up close and observe the way they navigate in the water.

“Everything has beauty but not everyone sees it” – unknown

Dead Leaf Butterflies (Kallima inachus) look like their name, they are able to blend in nicely among tree leaves.  This disguise helps protect them from predators.

Although, a closer look below reveals another secret this butterfly is hiding, a hint that it’s more attractive than initially perceived.

With wings fully extended, their bright orange coloring is surprising!  They are also known to calculating flash their orange wings at any hopeful mate around.  This was taken at the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Bonita Springs, Florida.

“If you aren’t in awe, you aren’t looking close enough.” – unknown

By looking closer in the window, it was interesting to see several colorful puppets watching people as they dine.  A detail which could easily be over looked when seeing the initial picture.

Patti selected this interesting topic and she encourages us to take a closer look at things we see.  Always look for unnoticed or obscure details.  Be sure to see her post by clicking here
