SHADOWS: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Tina challenges us to show images of interesting Shadows we have captured.  Looking over a few photos, I randomly picked several showing Shadows on the beach, a couple of golf courses, in the mountains and by the river.  It is the shape formed by Shadows which makes an interesting picture in addition to how they interacts with the subject.  Converting these pictures to black and white seemed logical, after all shadows are not very colorful, they just display interesting patterns!    “Color is descriptive.  Black and white is interpretive.”  –  Eliott Erwitt   A bright sunny summer day as the sun’s rays filter through the tree leaves.  This photo was…

LANDSCAPES: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Amy wants us to show pictures of a few of our favorite Landscapes.  Ones we have seen in our travels and also those close to home we can enjoy at our leisure.  Other Landscape favorites are featured in Previous Blogs such as PATH,  SEASONAL and  FAVORITE PICTURES of 2018.   “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” –  Marcel Proust     “I live in a landscape, which every single day of my life is enriching.”  –  Daniel Day-Lewis   This is one of my favorite Landscape pictures, taken at The Ocean Golf Course, Kiawah Island, SC.  This scene is never static; the…

SEASONAL: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Tina challenges us to express what Seasonal means; I chose to do this with photographs.  My husband and I are able to experience the seasons in two different parts of the country.  Winter rolls in with freezing weather, complete with wind, snow and ice in Southern Maine; Kiawah Island, SC has a more moderate winter, although it can get a bit chilly at times.  Spring is a welcome relief with delightfully warming temperatures as new life begins to unfold.  And, summer days on Kiawah can heat up quickly and become humid before traveling north to Maine for more temperate temperatures.  The autumn months in Maine can be spectacular; gorgeous fall…

MAGICAL LIGHT: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Amy shared some of her favorite pictures of sunrises and sunsets.  She is challenging us to share special moments we captured when observing Magical Light.  Where better to see gorgeous light than in spectacular sunrises and sunsets when the sky is full of design and color!  Except for the last picture, these photos were taken near our home on Kiawah Island, SC.    “Nature speaks to us through different images, landscapes, colors, patterns and forms of exquisite beauty.  As we admire nature’s extravagance our emotions and feelings become part of it.  This harmonious balance makes our souls happy…”  ∼ Ralph Waldo Emerson   Early morning sun light turns the…

BLENDING IN / STANDING OUT: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Leya challenges us to share a few pictures relative to “Blending In and/or Standing Out” so I decided to approach this challenge by sharing a couple of wildlife images.  Although the subject of the last image is different; decided to include it since it’s a good example of blending in with the environment.   “Every organism willing to fight for survival, received a gift from mother Nature, Camouflage.”  ∼   Abhi N   Dead Leaf Butterflies (Kallima inachus) easily blend in to protect themselves against predators…..   ….. or, they can stand out by flashing their brilliant colors to attract a mate.     Alligators are passive hunters and…

BIG Can Be Beautiful Too! : Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

This week Tina challenges us to show our interpretation of BIG Can Be Beautiful Too especially since several weeks ago we were challenged to show pictures defining “Small Is Beautiful”! “Big” can be defined as considerable size or extent.  These photo interpretations meet this criteria:  Angel Oak, a majestic live oak tree, a 77 foot (23.5 m) scallop boat which drifted ashore during a stormy night and a seagull studying a large bronze statue.  Each image contrasts something Big and Beautiful next to something Small and Beautiful.   “When we long for life without difficulties, remind us that oaks grow strong in contrary winds and diamonds are made under pressure.”  ∼ …

PATH: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

A big thank you to Tina for assigning the word “Path” as the photo challenge for the week.  A Path can be many things – a trail, walkway or route or  even the directions one chooses to take in life.  Decided to have some fun editing these interesting paths in nature; hope you enjoy viewing them!  Topaz software filters, Simplify and Impression, were used on all these images except the last one showing Loggerhead turtle tracks.      “We all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere.” ∼ Tim McGraw Beautiful pathways in the garden around modern art…

ACTION: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

Patti selected the word Action for this week’s Photo Challenge.  When thinking about what to present, wildlife images immediately came to mind.  Wild animals and birds spend most of their life being active; always vigilant and searching for food to survive and raise their young.   “Your way of life is determined by the actions you take.” ∼ Akiroq Brost Beautiful Maine Bobcats (Lynx rufus) like this one are fairly common in many parts of the state.  It was mesmerizing watching this cat slowly saunter back into the woods when hearing someone approach in the distance. Fortunately, bobcats are reclusive animals and tend to avoid people.  Their diet consists of rabbits,…

EVERYDAY MOMENTS: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

Amy suggested the photo word challenge of the week.  When thinking of images to best illustrate my interpretation of everyday moments these came to mind, demonstrating everyday moments birds and people enjoy.   “Every moment in our lives is a miracle we should enjoy instead of ignoring.” ∼ Yoko Ono   This pair of Roseate Spoonbills are enjoying an everyday moment plus their time together while bathing and grooming their feathers.  Since this was taken mid-day they will probably rest soon before catching more shrimp and aquatic insects in the shallow water.  It’s a real treat to see these beautiful birds in southern Florida, this image was taken in Bonita…

BLUE: Lens-Artists Photo Challenge

When searching my photo archives I was surprised to see so many pictures where blue is the dominate color.  Just wish I had a pair of blue suede shoes to show!   “Blue is the only color which maintains its own character, in all its tones it will always stay blue; whereas yellow is blackened in its shades, and fades away when lightened; red when darkened becomes brown, and diluted with white is no longer red, but another color – pink.”  ∼  Raoul Dufy —————-     “I see skies of blue and clouds of white, bright blessed days and dark sacred nights, and I think to myself what a wonderful world.” ∼ Louis Armstrong Several…
