Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #180 Highlights from 2021

“There are no great people in this world, only great challenges which ordinary people rise to meet.” – William Frederick Halsey, Jr.

2021 was such a challenging year for so many; hopefully everyone one got through it ok and became a wiser and stronger person.  I would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Healthy Year in 2022.

Tina suggested we show our favorite pictures from 2021. When looking through my pictures I was surprised as to how many I found. The opening picture shows a pair of Hooded Mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) which were featured in an April post, entitled Taking Flight.

The next two images are from a February post, The Letter “S”.  The first one overlooks the Gulf of Mexico in Bonita Springs, Florida, as the evening sun is setting.  In the next picture, residents are fishing and enjoying the scenery on Kiawah Island, SC.

This was taken on the beach at Kiawah. That evening the sky was ablaze with color as an August moon was rising above the horizon.  (It’s All About The Light.)

In May a group from the local photography club visited a few historical sights in Charleston, SC.  The topic for this post is Focusing on Details

The wrought iron gate below was designed and built in 1752 for St. Michael’s Church, the oldest church in Charleston.

Below that, it is interesting to see how the walls and roof of the old warehouse were purposely built around this southern oak tree in order to support the weight of its branches.

During October we shared a few colorful pictures of autumn.  The first picture is of a group of colorful ferns growing near the woods. Their soft colors looked so pretty that I decided to use Photoshop software to blend everything together.  Surprisingly, it ended up looking like this circle of colored ribbons.  This wagon of pumpkins from the field, below, attracts a lot of attention each year.  A great way to welcome in autumn in Maine!

The topic of a recent post in December was to feature a picture that tells a story.  The dog waiting by the shore for his master to return is an all-time favorite of mine.

As well as this picture which shows one of our dogs (Chester) sleeping on my husband’s shoes when he was younger.  The subject for this post was Feet and Shoes.

In June our challenge was to show one picture, edited two ways.  These beautiful flowers in the first picture were beside the path on Marginal Way in Ogunquit, ME.  The picture below it shows a different look, thanks to Photoshop.

Last but not least, in a the post Seen Better Days, this once beautiful family home is now a run down, dilapidated looking building, located on the main street in Kennebunk, ME.

It was fun to recap this past year with photographs, hope you enjoyed seeing these pictures again. (Be sure to click on each picture to see the larger version.)

A big welcome goes to the new members of the Lens-Artists team; Anne, Sofia and John!
