Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #417 Where Does It Lead?

Egidio, the host this week, is inviting us to showcase our photos that ask the question, “Where Does It Lead?”  He suggests we interpret his title three ways; Literal, Compositional, and Interpretive.

Liberal

Numerous footprints and bicycle tire tracks show a pathway many have traveled in the sand since the last high tide. Where do these tracks lead and why do so many want to follow?  Kiawah Island, SC, has a wonderful beach on the Atlantic Ocean. It’s length is ten miles from end to end and offers a beautiful vista for long walks, biking and exploring marine life along the coastline.

Compositional

Where is this man heading on a beautiful pathway with large glass doors in front of him.  Will he go through those doors to see what is inside?  If he is the curious type he will probably want to explore. This was taken at Santa Chiara Complesso Monumentale di Santa Chiara in Naples, Italy.

Interpretive

Where is this is a 300 pound female Loggerhead Turtle going after she leaving the beach on Kiawah Island?  What is pulling her back into the Atlantic Ocean? She recently laid her eggs in the sand dunes behind her and is returning to the ocean where she will remain close by to feed and rest. She will return to this beach a few more times during the season to lay several more clutches of eggs. Once the nesting season is over, she will migrate hundreds of miles back to her feeding grounds, only to return in another two to three years and repeat this same process over again.

Thanks goes to Egidio at Through Brazilian Eyes for encouraging me to interpret his topic in three different ways.  Be sure to enjoy his post by clicking on the link above.

In closing please stay safe, enjoy life and remember this powerful quote by Bob Kerrey.

“Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.”

    1. Thank you, Sofia, I was lucky to see her. Once laying her eggs, the female needs to leave the beach as quickly as possible due to her heavy weight and heat from the sun.

  1. Sylvia, you response to the challenge is beautiful. I really like the female sea turtle image and reading about her journey. I hope some of her hatchlings will make it to the ocean safely.

    1. Thank you Beth, do you have turtles nesting on the beach near you? They are remarkable and fortunately have federal protection to help them survive. We are fortunate to have an active group of volunteers on Kiawah.

  2. Sylvia, thanks for taking the time to do the challenge. You covered each interpretation so well. I especially liked the compositional photo among the beautiful examples you shared. Those leading lines and arches were very strong elements. Excellent post and photos.

    1. Egidio, thank you for your kind comments. This structure is part of the 14th-century religious and architectural complex. We toured all of this area when in Italy and its beauty is breathtaking! It was heavily damaged by Allied bombing in World War II and has been restored to its former beauty.
