“Birds in flight fascinate me. I admire eagles, falcons [and all birds]. I’m inspired by a feather but also its color, its graphics, its weightlessness and its engineering. It’s so elaborate…” – Alexander McQueen
This week I am sharing a few favorite quotes and illustrating them with pictures. This first quote relates to the header image showing a flock of Red Knots (Calidris canutus rufa) during one of their stop-overs on Kiawah Island, SC. These birds migrate from their winter home on the coast of southern Chile and Argentina to islands above the Arctic Circle for summer, a flight of more than 9,300 miles or 14,966.9 kilometers, a journey which is made twice a year. They are amazing birds and much has been documented about their fascinating journey and how they are able to endure this semi-annual trip year after year. Even though their numbers have decreased and they are currently on the federal endangered list, it is hopeful their population will increase again.
“Nana always said the rain was nature’s way to adding sparkle to the outdoors.” Mehmet Murat Ildan
I must admit walking in the rain is often enjoyable! It feels refreshing as soft rain drops hit my skin and the air has such a fresh, clean smell.
“Fall colors are funny. They’re so bright and intense and beautiful. It’s like nature is trying to fill you up with color, to saturate so you can stockpile it before winter turns everything muted and dreary.” – Siobhan Vivian
What is not to enjoy about autumn and seeing such lovely colors everywhere!
“Sitting under a tree in a park in the summer, listening to birds and squirrels chirping while reading a good book is priceless. “ Charmaine J. Forde
This is a recent scene from one of the parks in Charleston, SC. It seems to illustrate some of the beauty Charleston is so well known for.
“In nature, everything has a job. The job of the fog is to beatify further the existing beauties!” – Mehmet Murat Ildan
A morning trip to the beach yesterday as the fog was rolling in off the Atlantic Ocean.

Beautiful post, Sylvia. The fog one is my favourite, a poem on its own.
Sylvia, your gallery is so beautiful. I especially liked the quotes and photos of sitting under a tree and the fog. So poetic!
Beautiful, colorful shots to accompany your selection of quotes . This so true. “Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine they see all day.” – Catherine Pulsifer
A wonderful collection of quotes Sylvia. Loved the color you brought in the autumn and street shots, and the softness your brought us from the beach and the Charleston photo. It has been TOO many years since I have been there. So nice, Sylvia.
Thank you for taking the time to join in, Sylvia! Always colourful and thoughtful – great quotes and lovely scenery. The two last ones are my favourites – but I loved them all. The emptiness in the last one speaks to me. Only footsteps.
Thank you Ann-Christine. The last image of the footsteps was taken yesterday afternoon and the beach was so beautiful and peaceful.
Lots of lovely variety with your response to this one Sylvia – I love that Charleston scene especially.
Thank you, Tina. I was luck to stumble on this Charleston scene several months ago when out with on a photo club shoot. Even had a chance to speak to the young man as he was leaving the park, very pleasant to talk to.
Love these quotes, especially Ildan’s. Thank you for sharing with us, Sylvia. These photos are like beautiful paintings.
I am happy to have recently stumbed on a few of Ildan’s quotes, there will probably be a few more going forward. And thank you for your kind words.
