“Photography is a love affair with life.” – Burk Uzzle
This week Tina wants us to share a few favorite pictures from 2023. Selecting only a few turned out to be harder than I thought! Note: Clicking on a picture to open it in full screen. Also, to read more of an individual post, click on the underlined title.
“Dogs do speak, but only to those who know how to listen.” – Orhan Pamuk
It only seems right to start off by showing pictures of Tucker, our puppy who recently turned one year old. His energy and enthusiasm has dominated our household and our lives!
Tucker was featured in May when the Photo Challenge topic was about “New Experiences”. Initially, my husband and I forgot how much our life would change when eight-week-old Tucker came home with us. Raising a puppy now has become a new experience all over again. Plus, Bentley, our eleven-year-old, is so happy now he has started playing and racing around the house like a four year old!
In September the challenge was to show “Black and White” images. It is interesting to notice how some pictures seem to look better when they are converted to black and white like these two below.
“There’s something strange and powerful about black-and-white imagery.” – Stefan Kanfer
Another week in September the topic was “Tell Us Why“. We were challenged to choose a few pictures which have become our all-time favorites and then explain Why they are favorites. These three were chosen because of the memories they envoke and stories they tell.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” – Fred R. Barnard
In May my favorites were featured in “Backlit”. Backlit photos are those where the light source is either behind or at an angle to the subject and interesting designs or patterns are revealed from the light .
”Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” – George Eastman
Clouds can be in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colors, that is what makes the sky so interesting. Below are two favorites from the topic “Cloudscapes“.
“Clouds, they make a painting out of the sky.” – Marty Rubin
“In nature, everything has a job. The job of the fog is to beautify further the existing beauties!” – Mehmet Murat İldan
This ethereal image from a February post entitled “Bringing Softness“ shows how fog can bring out the softer side of an otherwise ordinary landscape scene.
Hope you have enjoyed revisiting a few of my favorite pictures! Be sure to see Tina’s post and her favorites by clicking here.
Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year!
“The photograph is an undeniably powerful medium. Free from the constraints of language, and harnessing the unique qualities of single moment frozen in time.” – Steve McCurry

I always love seeing what you come up with, and remember a few of these as favorites myself, Sylvia. The artist on the beach rocks was fantastic. Loved the all though. Happy New year.
Thank you, Donna! The artist on Marginal Way has become one of my very favorite photographs from Maine. It was such a treat to see him that foggy morning, I ended up taking lots of pictures as he set up and then when he was painting. The color of the easel and his outfit seemed to compliment the entire scene.
Definitely. I always love stopping by your page as it defines so much of “back home”. I know you know that, but I will probably continue to say it.
LOL Donna, my husband and I love spending our summers in Maine, going on 16 years this year. As you know, so much to see, do and photograph. Now, it is very sad hearing about all the storm damage along the coast – York, Perkins Cove, Wells, Kennebunkport, Portland and further north. So tragic.😢🥲
Yes, the videos are so sad. the main ocen drive in York where we sometimes stay is desimated. And while not funny, the ice cream shop (Beach Plum) in North Hampton survived while nearby fisheries did not. Mother Nature always decides.
Always enjoy experiencing your lovely and topical photos.
Bob, it is always nice hearing from you, so glad you enjoy seeing these pictures!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos and stories. I so enjoy seeing your works!
Cathy, so nice to hear from you and thank you for such kind words. Hope you all are doing ok in Maine, please stay safe!
Your flowers and landscapes are exquisite, Sylvia. But Tucker is something else, gorgeous.
Thank you, Sofia! We feel so lucky to have gotten such a wonderful dog, Tucker has become a great companion and has so much love to give. So glad you enjoyed seeing the flowers and Maine landscapes!
