“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” – Josh Billings
This week Anne, of Slow Shutter Speed, suggests we share a new personal experience. The experience my husband and I are in the midst of now is not really new to us, it’s just that we have not experienced this in well over ten years – so, it seems like it’s new.
We recently got a puppy!! Meet Tucker, an American Cocker Spaniel.
“Training a puppy is like raising a child. Every single interaction is a training opportunity.” – Ian Dunbar
Two months ago our life changed when eight week-old Tucker came home with us. We seemed to have forgotten how much time and work is involved when a puppy is around. The first many weeks were hectic since he needed several small meals a day, ongoing supervision when not in his crate plus housebreaking rountine entailes outside trips at least every couple of hours. The remainer of his busy schedule is taken up with several walks a day, runs in the back yard, play time with toys and a thorough investigation of anything new. Fortunately for us there are many naps. Tucker has the typical puppy attitude of “If I want it then it, then it is Mine!” In the picture below, he has cornered a new object and is thinking about how to deal with it.
He has the usual collection of toys to play with. And, his many funny puppy antics keep us laughing,

When Tucker has tired himself out and in a mellow mood we are able to spend quality time cuddling with him.
Tucker shares his new home with Bentley, our ten year old cocker spaniel who recently lost his brother, Chester. Bentley still has the energy of a six year old and by the second day the two dogs were chasing each other around the house and playing games. Tucker is now Bentley’s ‘New Best Friend’!

Tucker bonded with Foxy immediately and it has become his #1 toy. Interestingly, Foxy was also Chester’s favorite toy that went everywhere he went.
“Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made.” – Roger Caras
