Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #207 Seeing Double

“The world is a looking glass and gives back the reflection of his own face.” – William Makepeace Thackeray

Jez of Photos by Jez, the guest host this week, says “seeing double is all about reflections…. I tend to see them everywhere & actively seek them out when they’re not readily apparent…..[They] are all transitory in nature; they’re not permanent but can be captured forever.”

With Jez’s thoughts in mind, I found a few of my favorite pictures of reflections. The banner shot is the reflection of colored lights on the water from nearby restaurants and shops. (Grand Canal in Venice)

This picture below is the reflections of several high rise buildings on the glass front of a skyscraper along the Chicago River in the heart of downtown.

This large glass bottle is part of an exhibit of mirrored glass bottles by Josiah McElheny titled Endlessly Repeating Twentieth Century Modernism, 2007, as seen at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. Notice the reflection of the multiple glass bottles nearby displayed on the front of this bottle.

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” – Henry David Thoreau

The sunlight reflection of a fern leaf on the base of a large tree at the Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida. (Blair Audubon Center)

“Only in still waters do things reflect undistorted.” – Anne Brown

A water reflection of a dead tree in the swamp which is gracefully covered with southern moss.  Note the two nests near the top, one of which (right side) is occupied by a Great Blue Heron sitting on her eggs. (Can enlarge picture by clicking on it.)

Last but not least, beach sand and the Atlantic Ocean is reflecting the vivid colors in the morning sky over the Kiawah Island beach.

I am glad to be returning to my weekly blog after having to take a couple of weeks off. Hopefully you have enjoyed seeing these reflections and in turn will notice even more when you are out with your camera. As Jez said, “[They] are all transitory in nature; they’re not permanent but can be captured forever.” Be sure to visit his blog, Photos by Jez by clicking here. He has beautiful examples of reflections on his post!
