Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #182 Interesting Objects

It is amazing how many interesting sights are around us once we start looking for them.  This week Patti suggests we share a few things we have seen when walking through a city, the country, a museum, or a beach.  Something different that catches our eye.

This banner shot was taken a few years ago when visiting a botanical garden in Canada.  These artistic metal flowers among the other plants added a lot of color and interest.  And, below is a popular ice cream shop in Maine which is known for their long list of delicious ice creams plus humorous signs around the property.  The picture of the cow and her message greets anyone using their restroom.

Durbin Park in Boston, MA, is well known for their variety of souvenir shops, restaurants, bars and outdoor entertainment.  I could not help but take the picture of this “fellow” greeting everyone at the door.

Virginia Beach, VA, is home to the United States Navy’s East Cost Master Jet Base and this fiberglass dolphin was decorated in honor of the VFA31 or Strike Fighter Squadron 31, also known as the Tomcatters.  Fifteen plus years ago artist Cindy Graf from Virginia Beach, started a nonprofit dolphin project and the city adopted the dolphin as its official animal mascot.  To help raise money for cancer research, businesses and artists bought over a hundred fiberglass dolphins to decorate and display all around the city.

I had the chance to briefly talk to this biker when walking down the street in downtown Charleston, SC. On this particular day I was part of a group of photography club members participating in a street photography photo shoot. I was glad this man was kind enough to let me take a few pictures, I really liked was his mascot riding along with him!

Occasionally one sees a bottle tree in someone yard or business. The presence of these trees is based on a superstition dating back to around 1600 BC. The empty bottles are believed to draw evil spirits due to their bright colors.  Once inside the bottles, they cannot escape and are eventually killed by sunlight. Trees like these can be seen in various parts of the country, especially in some of the old southern states.   Tina, do you remember this tree?

Thank you for visiting my post!  And, be sure to check out Patti’s post by clicking here to enjoy seeing the interesting objects she has discovered.

Hope you like seeing these pictures and please remember a little extra kindness to family members, friends and strangers can brighten up someone’s day.
