Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #110 Creativity During Covid

This week Tina asked us to share a few things we did over the past few months when the covit pandemic created a worldwide social recession.

Catching up on long overdue projects around the house, spending more time learning from webinars and working to improve my photography skills became more of a priority.

My husband and I spent mornings on the beach.  Exploring with my camera was both mentally and physically rewarding as he walked around enjoying the scenery.  It was during this period a few photography friends spotted a reddish egret – white morph hanging out with some other migratory birds.  This rare sighting created a lot of excitement so, of course, I had to check it out 😊.   According to wild bird experts, Egretta rufescens Reddish Egret White Morph is seldom seen in our area.  They are more prevalent on the Florida coast, nearby islands and coastal areas on the Gulf of Mexico.

Reddish egret – white morph look very much like Great Egrets (Ardea alba) with the exception of their bills.  The Reddish Egret’s bill is solid black except during breed season when it turns pink with a black tip.  They also have a unique dancing, prancing, behavior in shallow water to attract fish.  Too bad this egret did not show for us how talented he is 😒.  (Please note that double clicking each image will enlarge it.)

This picture below shows a Great Egret.  It’s easy to see how similar they are although the Great Egret is a little larger in size.

On another overcasted morning, Royal Terns (Thalasseus maximus) entertained us with their graceful flights over the shallow water.  As soon as they saw a fish below, they  before made a beautiful aerial dive for it.

This tern picked up a dark shell by mistake.  As soon as he realized it, it was dropped it on the sand a short distance away.

Be sure to check out Tina’s post, Travel and Tifles, this week where she features a friend’s beautiful artwork

Hope everyone is coping well as the coronavirus pandemic continues to change lives around the world.
