This week Patti wants us to continue thinking about the four seasons; this week the topic is Autumn. Be sure to visit her post and enjoy the lovely autumn images.
To me Autumn is about the beautiful colors Mother Nature creates as the air gets cooler and tree leaves change to glorious oranges, reds and yellows. Maine as well as other states in New England have a well-deserved reputation as being one of the prettiest areas during the fall months. Over the past years my husband and I have spent our summers in southern Maine, and occasionally stay through the fall and winter months. Such a treat to be there in September and October – before winter snow arrives.
“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” – Laren DeStefano
When looking through pictures I decided on these few which were taken close to our house. Seeing such interesting shades of greens, reds, oranges and reds, I wanted to edit them using a few artistic styles found in Photoshop, Nik and Topaz software. This image was taken near the entrance of a neighborhood not far from our house. It was edited using the watercolor style in Topaz Simplify 4. (You are able to double click each image to view in full screen.)
“October, the extravagant sister, has ordered an immense amount of the most gorgeous forest tapestry for her grand reception.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes
This was taken from our back deck of our house looking down the cart path towards the 18th hole. The beautiful combination of colors in the sky, trees and grasses were softened in Photoshop to give this a dreamy look.
“She loved the fall, all the sun-faded colors of summer repainted by vivid reds and golds still clinging fragilely to branches that would soon be covered with snow.” – Naomi Ragen
These Belgian Draft Horses plow the fields and pull carts loaded with fresh produce back to the farm store during the summer months. When they aren’t working they participate in local parades and during the winter they provide sleigh rides in the snow. Edited in Nik Software, Color Effects Pro 4, using a midnight filter.
“The bright summer had passed away, and gorgeous autumn was flinging its rainbow-tints of beauty on hill and dale.” – Cornelia L. Tuthill
Historic Bethel Maine has a popular golf course which was carved out of hills and streams back in 1913; many years later it become an 18-hole course. During the winter months it is used for cross country skiing. This is the tee box area on a par 3 where you have to hit over the water and ravine towards the right to get on the green – a tough shot for some of us! 😉
“Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all.” – Stanley Horowitz
Be sure to read the information below if you are interested in joining the “Lens-Artist Photography” blog. Participation is open to anyone. Tina, one of the four founders, gives the details on how to join:
“Each Saturday at noon EST we will publish a photo challenge similar in form to the now-defunct Word Press Challenge (WPC). If you choose to participate, please make sure to tag your post with the name of our group, LENS-ARTISTS, so that all of the responses can be found together in the WP Reader. And, please, include a link to the challenge moderator’s post. One of our four moderators will host the challenge each week.”
