Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #68 LAYERED

Amy is inviting us to explore Layers through a few of our pictures.  I decided to feature a few images showing examples of layers created by Mother Nature!

This image shows multiple layered stone which was formed by hot, molten magma from beneath the earth’s crust as it slowly cooled and hardened many years ago.  Taken at the company site in Beebe, Quebec looking down into an active granite quarry.

A little over a year ago, we decided to update our kitchen and add new counter tops.  Making our selection entailed looking at an endless number of granite slabs!  Naturally I was compelled to take pictures of a few of the more colorful ones on display!   This lovely polished stone is one of my favorites, although it was not the pattern we choose.

Each slab of granite is unique.  A pattern is created by different proportions of minerals beneath the earth’s surface, and when layered and compressed together, beautiful colors and interesting designs are formed.

Not much I can say about this layered image of clouds except how breathtakingly gorgeous it was in person!

Dahlia’s are made up of several layers of beautifully colored flower petals.
