“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” – Lauren Destefano
Autumn comes early in Maine. You can tell it has arrived when a sweater or light jacket is needed in the mornings, leaves begin to turn into lovely yellows, reds and oranges, colorful chrysanthemums are visible everywhere and small groups of Canadian Geese stop over in local ponds for a day or two as they head south. Maine as well as other states in New England have a well-deserved reputation as being one of the prettiest areas during the fall months.Visitors travel from everywhere in September and October. These pictures are a testament to how beautiful Maine is during the autumn season.
The first two pictures were taken at a local farm not far from our house. These Belgian Draft Horses work in the fields during the growing and harvesting seasons. During the winter months they provide sleigh rides around the vast farm. I imagine it is especially delightful going out for a ride in the snow, which could be often!
Golfing is very popular among visitors and also locals during the pleasant summer and fall months. I must admit, there have been times when playing during the autumn months when the leaves and scenery was so breathtakingly beautiful that it was hard to concentrate on my game. The golf course below, Sunday River, is located in the western part of northern Maine and during the winter months it becomes a popular ski resort.
This was taken from our house as neighbors were playing the 17th hole at Atlantic Pines Golf Course in Wells, Maine. The next picture of the Par 3 fairway was taken at a different time and shows how beautiful the trees become.
I will end this series with one of my favorite Maine shots which many of you have seen before, it was taken in Kennebunkport.
This last series was taken in Ogunquit which is a popular area for visitors who want to view the fall foliage, do some shopping plus walk on Marginal Way and on the beach beside the Atlantic Ocean during the September and October months. Each year, in the early part of October, Halloween decorations are seen everywhere. Businesses and residents go all out decorating and come up with elaborate and creative themes. For example, these four pictures were taken last year. The theme centered around two honeybees, the Queen bee, a beekeeper and a tall sunflower (in the next image) along with lots of colorful pumpkins and flowers!
Hope you have enjoyed seeing these images, you can click on each one to enlarge it. Additionally, in July 2020 I posted another Lens-Artists blog entitled #106 Autumn. Should you like to see additional autumn scenes from Maine along with some “digital creativity”, click here.
John, of photobyjohnbo, is our host this week. He is featuring some lovely autumn pictures which can be enjoyed by clicking on his link above.
In closing I will share another favorite quote describing autumn.
“Autumn that year painted the countryside in vivid shades of scarlet, saffron, and russet, and the days were clear and crisp under harvest skies.” – Sharon Kay Penman

Impressive Halloween arrangements, Sylvia! My favourite is the boat one, idyllic.
A wonderful collection, Sylvia! I especially love the photo of the draft horses, but that photo of Ogunquit is also beautiful.
Many thanks John, and especially for selecting Autumn for our topic!! I think the draft horses are special and they are so beautiful, and big, upclose! The autumn leaves, calm river and three canoes is so relaxing to look at, also one of my favorite photos.
Marvelous! Thanks!
Hi Mary, hope everything is going well with you! Thanks for checking out my post and commenting on it! Hope you have a good winter.
A beautiful post Sylvia – and for sure Maine is one of the best places in the U.S. for autumn foliage. I didn’t realize they went so all out with decorations there but what fun!!! Almost makes up for the frigid winters but then, maybe not LOL!
Thanks Tina, there always seems to be something going on holidays and celebrations are special! The Halloween decorations are my favorite, you can see how creative people are and for the most part, each year has a different fun theme or story to tell. Will show you more pictures sometime.
