Lens-Artists Photo Challenge: #115 INSPIRATION

This week Tina is inviting us to show images that Inspire us.  I had a hard time narrowing down this topic because the truth is, whenever outside there are many Inspirational things all around to see and photograph!

My husband and I are in southern Maine now so I decided to feature some Inspirational pictures taken in Boothbay Harbor. On a couple of occasions we visited this area with our friends to play golf, spend the night and enjoy the town.  It is quite picturesque as you can see; a popular yachting and tourist destination, known for lobster fishing, boat building and numerous celebrations throughout the year.  Plus, Boothbay Golf Course is a beautiful place to play.

What I find Inspirational about this town and other small towns along the Maine coast is the ongoing flow of energy, friendly town’s people and visitors plus its natural beauty.  Everyone takes a lot pride in their town; colorful flowers everywhere, lovely landscaping, places to casually stroll and excellent restaurants. Something else that is obvious throughout the State is the love for our Country.  Even though only a few of these picture show the American flag flying, wherever you turn it can be seen proudly waving in the breeze from flag poles, buildings, boats and roadways.  I stumbled on this quote by John Wayne concerning the American flag that so Inspired me I decided to share it.

“Sure I wave the American flag.  Do you know a better flag to wave?  Sure I love my country with all her faults.  I’m not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be.” – John Wayne

These first two pictures below were taken from the balcony outside our hotel room.  The first was taken in the evening close to sunset and the second in the middle of the day. The next two images give you an idea of how active the harbor is on any given day.  A lobster boat is heading out to refresh their traps and kayakers are enjoying a beautiful day on the water.  By double clicking each image it can be seen in full screen.

Boothbay Lobster Wharf Restaurant in the foreground is very popular, offering delicious food with a specular view.  This was taken from their top floor looking out over part of the harbor.  Our hotel room was located in the harbor area so we took a well-known footbridge, built in 1901, to cross the harbor and go into town.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, below, faces the mouth of the harbor and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.  It is one of the first things sailors see when returning home.  It has always represented comfort and safely.  This beautiful church was built in 1926.

One of many lovely homes on an adjacent island.  The colorful flowers around this home Inspired me to take this picture!  Be sure to click the picture to see how pretty they look.

Last but not least, this is Boothbay Golf Course as seen from the parking lot a couple of years ago.  The four of us had an early morning tee time as the fog began to lift.  It turned out to be a gorgeous day and I remember everyone had low scores but me – am still working on my game.  Fortunately, my camera was close by so I could capture the beauty of the course!

After writing this post, I’m ready to return to Boothbay Harbor again.  There are still more things there to Inspire me and more pictures to be taken!
