There are many Forgettable pictures in my archive files due to camera shake, wrong exposure, etc. So, they end up being either deleted or ignored. This week Tina wants us to revisit the Forgotten ones to see if it is possible to make them into a Favorite. (Not an easy task in some cases.😊) Thank goodness for editing software programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, Nik, Topaz and Luminar to name a few. Plus, some of these programs even have AI capabilities (artificial intelligence). They do a remarkable job of analysing an image and suggesting ways to improve it.
In my editing workflow, Adobe Photoshop (PS) is the go to software program. Initial editing is handled in Bridge/PS/Camera Raw, then opened in the main Photoshop program for finishing touches. Or, depending on the image it goes to Nik Software/Color Efex Pro 4/Detail Extractor to further adjust saturation and details. And then, back to Photoshop for cropping and finishing touches. All of these images can be enlarged by clicking on them.
This was taken on Wadmalaw Island in SC at Cherry Point Seafood Company. Such a wonderful place to go for fresh shrimp and fresh as the boats come in!
In this image, after PS, Nik software was used to further enhance the colors in the sky and also the lovely marsh grasses that difficult to see in the original picture.
I liked seeing these beautiful Ginger Lilies grouped together but something seemed missing in this picture. It was just an ok shot, nothing particularly interesting stood out. I played around with it some by cropped from several different angles. Then the flower on the bottom right side stood out and became a favorite.
This lilly pond is located in Ogunquit, ME, at the Museum of American Art. This scene reminded me of some of Claude Monet’s paintings of a lily pad pond. (There is even a small footbridge on one side.) I stumbled on this when looking through a few Forgotten photos and decided to see if I could make it into a Favorite. Success! And imagine my surprise when I spotted the frog resting on the lily pad in the foreground. When editing, I used Topaz DeNoise AI, this brought out more color, sharpened the lily pads and removed overall noise.
This is from an afternoon photo shoot by one of the ponds on the Island. The grasses looked interesting so I decided to make this into an abstract. By using PS and Nik software, I was able to pick up the light on the water and grass and accentuate the ripples in the water. Who would have thought there was this much movement and light? Now it is a favorite!
Hope you have enjoyed seeing a few examples of how a Forgettable photograph can be turned into something more attractive and become a Favorite! And, be sure to see Tina’s beautiful post. 😊
